Amid 'Slow Poisoning' Claims, Post-Mortem Confirms Mukhtar Ansari Died Of Cardiac Arrest: Report

Following the demised of Mukhtar Ansari, a gangster-turned politician, the post-mortem examination confirmed his cause of death to be cardiac arrest.

Ansari passed away on Thursday (28 March) night after being rushed from the district jail in Banda to the Rani Durgavati Medical College.

Despite his family's allegations of "slow poisoning" leading to his death while in jail, a hospital source, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed to news agency PTI that the post-mortem report concluded Ansari's demise was due to a heart attack (myocardial infarction), reported Deccan Herald.

The autopsy was conducted by a panel of five doctors, with Ansari's younger son, Umar Ansari, present during the examination at the Rani Durgavati Medical College.

Following the post-mortem, a procession of vehicles departed from Banda in the evening, transporting Ansari's body to his hometown district of Ghazipur.

The last rites of mafia-turned-politician will be performed today (30 March).

Earlier, Ansari's son and brother claimed that the gangster was given ‘slow poison’ in his food in jail.

Several politicians including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had echoed the poison allegations and demanded a probe.

Following this, a judicial inquiry has been ordered by Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhagwan Das Gupta into Ansari's death case.

Mukhtar Ansari had earlier been convicted and handed a 10-year prison sentence for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai by an MP-MLA court.

In another instance, he had received a life sentence in connection with a case involving the use of forged documents to obtain an arms license back in 1990.
