Since Jagan Mohan Reddy went out of power in Andhra Pradesh after assembly elections held earlier this year, many instances of his extravagant spending have come to light, with the latest case of egg puffs.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has claimed that the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) spent Rs 3.62 crore on egg puffs in the five years of Jagan Reddy's tenure.
This means that on average Rs 72 lakh were spent each year on egg puffs. Since an egg puff costs around Rs 20, a total of over 18 lakh egg puffs were consumed in five years.
This takes the daily consumption of egg puffs to almost 1,000. The Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP is calling it the 'egg puff scandal,' Times Now reported.
This data came up during the Naidu government's investigation into the financial irregularities of the Reddy government and the misuse of public funds for personal leisure.
Similar allegations have propped up earlier, where Reddy is accused of building a personal palace on Rushikonda hill with public money and keeping special planes for personal use.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP dismissed these allegations as fake propaganda intended to tarnish Reddy's image. They also counterclaimed that Naidu spent Rs 8.5 crore on snacks between 2014 and 2019.
The TDP rejected these allegations, labeling them as fake news. In the assembly elections, the TDP won 135 seats, while the YSRCP managed to secure only 11.
