Arvind Kejriwal's Bail Plea Rejected By Delhi Court, Judicial Custody Extended In Liquor Excise Policy Case

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has rejected the interim bail plea submitted by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking seven days of bail for medical reasons.

The court instead extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody, in the liquor excise policy case after he appeared virtually before the court, until 19 June, as per a report by Hindustan Times.

Additionally, the court has instructed the relevant authorities to conduct necessary medical tests for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.

On 7 June, the court will consider Kejriwal's application for default bail in the case.

On Sunday, the Rouse Avenue Court remanded Kejriwal to judicial custody until 5 June.

Kejriwal, who was arrested in March, was previously granted a temporary, three-week bail to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, which concluded on 1 June. He returned to pre-trial detention the next day.

Duty Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal noted that Kejriwal surrendered to Tihar Jail as per Supreme Court directions.

The ED had filed an application on 20 May, while Kejriwal was on interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, requesting a 14-day extension of judicial custody.

On 1 June, the court reserved the order on a new interim bail plea from Kejriwal requesting seven days of bail.

On 4 June, the Supreme Court refused to entertain bail pleas from AAP leader Manish Sisodia in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.

However, the court noted that Sisodia could revive his bail petitions after the ED and CBI file their final prosecution complaint and charge sheet, respectively, in the cases involving alleged corruption and money laundering.
