At Least 18 Killed, 19 Injured In Bus-Tanker Collision On Agra-Lucknow Expressway In Unnao—All About It

In Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, a tragic accident resulted in at least 18 deaths and 19 injuries when a bus collided with another vehicle today (9 July).

Among the deceased were three women and a child, according to the police.

The double-decker bus, en route from Sitamarhi in Bihar to Delhi, struck a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra expressway early this morning.

The impact of the collision was so huge that passengers were thrown out of the vehicle.

According to reports, visuals from the scene showed bodies on the ground, twisted scraps of metal, shattered glass and destroyed belongings.

"Today at around 5:15 am, a private bus coming from Motihari, Bihar, collided with a milk tanker. Eighteen people have lost their lives, and 19 others are injured in the accident, said Gaurang Rathi, District Magistrate, Unnao, NDTV reported.

The injured have been rushed to a hospital and are being treated there, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra has expressed sorrow on the tragic incident.

"The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this. May God give them strength in this difficult time. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the mishap in Unnao. The injured would be given Rs 50,000, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed deep sorrow over the incident and instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment of the injured.
