Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the latest recipients of India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.
This year, five distinguished individuals have been named for this prestigious award.
The Bharat Ratna, instituted in 1954, is awarded to individuals in recognition of exceptional service or performance of the highest order in any field.
Notably, any person irrespective of race, occupation, position, or sex is eligible for this prestigious award.

A stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Advani played pivotal roles in Indian politics and governance, serving as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister under former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He played a pivotal role in the Ram Mandir Movement. His Rath Yatra in the 1990s laid the groundwork for the massive support for the construction of a grand Ram temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi site in Ayodhya.
Born in Bihar's Samastipur District in 1924, Karpoori Thakur served as the chief minister of the state twice, first from December 1970 to June 1971 and then from December 1977 to April 1979.
He is remembered for his progressive policies and significant influence on contemporary Bihar politics.
PV Narasimha Rao, served as Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996 and is credited with spearheading economic reforms and liberalisation that transformed India's economy.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1902, Singh held the Prime Minister's office for a brief period in 1979-80 and made significant contributions to agrarian policies.
Widely hailed as the father of the Green Revolution in India, Swaminathan has been instrumental in revolutionising agricultural practices.
