Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh on Wednesday (10 April) announced contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Bihar's Karakat.
He had earlier backed off from contesting, a day after getting a BJP ticket from West Bengal's Asansol. He then, last month said that he would be contesting, without revealing from where.
However, after BJP's 10th list of candidates released today, where SS Ahluwalia, the incumbent MP from Bardhaman-Durgapur, was declared a candidate from Asansol, Pawan Singh disclosed his move.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had given the Karakat seat to Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha is set to contest from here.
In the Mahagathbandhan (the Congress-RJD alliance), this seat fell under CPI (ML) quota and Raja Ram Singh Kushwaha is the INDI Alliance candidate here.
Quoting a Sanskrit verse, “Mata Gurutara Bhumeru”, which means that mother has more weightage than this land, Singh said that he had promised his mother to contest the elections this time.
"I have decided that I will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Karakat, Bihar. Jai mata di (Hail mother Goddess)," Singh posted on X without disclosing on which symbol he will contest.
