Bihar: Expelled RJD Leader Pappu Yadav Merges His Jan Adhikar Party Into Congress Ahead Of Lok Sabha Elections

Pappu Yadav merged his Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) into Congress on Wednesday (20 March). The party was founded ahead of the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.

This comes a day after Pappu Yadav met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Bihar Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and pledged to stop BJP in Seemanchal and Mithilanchal.

RJD is the major partner of the Congress' alliance in Bihar. However, the seat-sharing of this alliance could not be finalised yet, despite the NDA doing so a couple of days ago for Bihar.

"Lalu Yadav and I don't have political relations, it is completely an emotional tie," Pappu Yadav said earlier praising Tejashwi Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Interestingly, Pappu Yadav was expelled from the RJD in May 2015 for anti-party activities. He then contested against the Nitish-Lalu alliance in the 2015 Assembly elections under JAP.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Pappu Yadav joined the Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) of the Azad Samaj Party and Bahujan Samaj Party and contested 148 seats.

It got a vote share of 1.03 per cent, which was even less than the 2015 elections when it contested 109 seats and got a vote share of 1.35 per cent. Thus, without a future, it was best to merge the party.

Pappu Yadav has been elected a member of Lok Sabha multiple times from several constituencies of Bihar on different party symbols. However, this time he might get a ticket from Purnea.
