The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (27 August) released its third list declaring 10 candidates for the second and 19 for the third phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

The list features several former BJP MLAs like Rajeev Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Rajiv Jasrotiya and a former Congress MLA Mohammed Akram Chaudhary.

The second BJP list only had one name, while the first list had 18 names including former BJP MLAs Shakti Raj Parihar and Daleep Singh Parihar.

In total, the BJP has declared 48 candidates till now, while the National Conference has declared 50 candidates from 56 seats it decided to contest.

The BJP has till now fielded only a single woman candidate. She is Shagun Parihar, who comes from the family of a BJP leader, killed by Hizbul Mujahideen.

The first phase of elections is scheduled for 18 September, followed by the second phase on 25 September and the third on 1 October. The vote counting will take place on 4 October.
