After winning the Lok Sabha election in Rae Bareli, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for loss in Ayodhya and reduced victory margin in Varanasi.
Addressing a public gathering in his constituency on Tuesday (11 June), Gandhi alleged that in the inauguration of Ram Mandir, there was not a single poor, farmer, labourer, Backward, Dalit or Adivasi (tribal) person.
He further alleged that President Droupadi Murmu was not invited to the inauguration because she is a tribal, while Adani, Ambani, billionaires and Bollywood and cricket celebrities were there.
"There was not a single poor person. So the people of Ayodhya have given the answer. Not just Ayodhya, the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) saved his life in Varanasi," Gandhi said on reduced victory margin.
"If my sister (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) would have contested in Varanasi, then Indian PM would have lost by 2 to 3 lakh votes in Varanasi. I am not saying this out of arrogance but based on people's message," he added.
Gandhi thanked leaders and the members of the Congress party and the people of Amethi and Rae bareli for dual wins. He also thanked his ally Samajwadi Party (SP) for its contribution.
"This was for the first time that the workers of different parties of INDI Alliance stood together to fight. Earlier, alliances used to complain of parties not helping each other. But this time, nobody backed out," he added.
