Canada: Shots Fired At Residence Of Simranjeet Singh, Close Associate Of Khalistani Terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar

Multiple shots were fired at the residence of an associate of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in the town of Surrey in British Columbia on 18 June last year.

According to the Canadian media, the owner of residence that was targeted was identified as Simranjeet Singh. 

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday and media reports said that a car parked at the residence had been heavily damaged by gunfire, along with multiple bullet holes in the house itself.

Surrey police said they first responded to reports of gunshots in the early hours of Thursday at a "home located near the 2800 block of 154 Street".

According to the police, the officers "attended the scene and located evidence consistent with a shooting".

"No injuries were reported," the Surrey detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement.

Surrey RCMP’s Major Crime Section is conducting the investigation.

Investigators “believe this was an isolated incident,” the statement said, adding that officers were still working to determine the motive of this incident.

However, pro-Khalistan groups have already accused that India is behind the attack since Singh had helped organise a protest outside the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on 26 January.

Moninder Singh, spokesperson for the British Columbia Gurdwaras Council and also a Khalistani separatist in Canada, said he believed Simnranjeet Singh’s connection to Nijjar could have been a factor.

"[Simranjeet] feels like this is the Indian state, or their actors, that are playing their part here to kind of scare them off from ... the activism work that he's doing," he was quoted as saying by CBC news.
