An encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Saturday (15 June) resulted in the deaths of at least one security force personnel and eight Maoists.
The encounter in Abujhmad began on 12 June in the areas of Kutul, Farasbeda, and Kodtameta.
The joint anti-naxal operation, a coordinated effort involving District Reserve Guards and the Special Task Force from four districts — Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, and Dantewada — was supported by personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 53rd Corps.
“The encounters are going on since June 12 with firing taking place after regular intervals. Of these, in one encounter, at least eight Maoists have been killed and a jawan also lost his life. Two other jawans have been injured,” a police official said, Indian Express reported.
This year has seen a marked increase in anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh, with 131 Naxals killed so far.
This figure represents a significant rise from the 24 Naxals killed in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Naxals have killed 22 civilians and 10 security personnel this year.
