CM Yogi Adityanath Sets Goal Of Developing 'Safe Cities' in Uttar Pradesh, Aims To Lead the Way In The Country

Uttar Pradesh is set to become the first state in the country to establish 18 'safe cities' that will prioritise the safety and development of its residents, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This initiative aims to create a conducive environment for every individual in the state, as stated in a recent announcement.

During a review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to transform all 17 Municipal Corporations and Gautam Budh Nagar into 'safe cities' within the next three months.

He highlighted the importance of inter-departmental coordination to manage the financial aspects of this endeavor.

Under the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, the state has implemented various security measures through the 'safe city' project.

These include modern control rooms, pink police booths, Asha Jyoti Kendras, CCTV cameras, help desks for counsellors in women's police stations, and panic buttons in buses.

"Today, every woman and every businessman is safe in the state. People have a sense of security. For this belief to stay, we have to be in alert mode 24/7. The Safe City project is proving to be extremely useful in fulfilling the resolve to ensure women's safety, dignity, and self-reliance," he said.

The Chief Minister further outlined the phased implementation of the project. In the second phase, the municipalities of 57 district headquarters will be included, followed by 143 municipalities in the third phase.

He reviewed the action plan for the project and provided instructions for the development of all cities involved.

Additionally, he suggested that each of the cities should display a signboard with the label 'Safe City', thereby making the state with the highest number of safe cities in the country.

Expanding the scope of the project, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasised the inclusion of safety measures for not only women but also the elderly, children, and individuals with disabilities (divyangjan).

He also directed the officials to develop a safe city portal and connect all such departments through which welfare schemes were being run for women, children, elderly and disabled people.

The state government is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all citizens. Over the past six years, their efforts have shown promising results.

“Through Safe City, the campaign to create a safe, protected, and empowered environment for women, children, the elderly, and divyangjan in public places will get the necessary impetus," the Chief Minister stated.

He also stressed on the verification of drivers of public transport vehicles to realise the concept of Safe City.
