In a significant legal development, the Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against former President Donald Trump, declaring him guilty of insurrection.

What Happened in Colorado?

The Colorado Supreme Court, in a majority decision of 4-3, determined that Trump is "disqualified from holding the office of President" under a specific section of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

This decision means Trump cannot be listed as a candidate in the upcoming presidential primary in Colorado.

The court's unique ruling, applicable only to Colorado, will remain in effect until 4 January, providing Trump an opportunity to appeal before the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).

Following the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling, the Trump campaign swiftly announced its plan to appeal.

Legal experts believe that this case could compel SCOTUS to tackle the overarching issue of whether the Capitol attack on 6 January 2021, qualifies as an insurrection, potentially rendering Trump ineligible for future presidential contests.

Described by legal scholars as a "political and legal earthquake," the Colorado decision carries historical significance, adding pressure on SCOTUS to weigh in on this unprecedented matter.

If other states follow suit, Trump's chances of securing the Republican nomination and winning in November could face considerable challenges.

Other Legal Battles:

Besides the Colorado case, Trump is involved in four other legal battles.

These include allegations of federal election interference, spreading lies about voter fraud in Georgia, mishandling classified documents, and accusations related to hush money payments.

The outcome of these cases, coupled with the Colorado ruling, shapes the trajectory of Trump's potential candidacy and influences the US national discourse.
