In a significant development, Myanmar's military is in talks with the Three Brotherhood Alliance, a group of ethnic armed forces, brokered by China, as per reports by Business Standard.
The alliance, including the Arakan Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and Ta'ang National Liberation Army, has been in intense combat in the northeast since 27 October, creating a challenge for Myanmar's rulers.
As the conflict along the Myanmar-China border has disrupted trade, China is supposedly helping to facilitate talks between Myanmar's government and the alliance to find a solution to the ongoing conflict.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, Myanmar's military spokesperson, has mentioned that the talks, with China's help, aim to resolve the crisis and more discussions are expected by the end of the month.
China had earlier called for a ceasefire near its border, urging dialogue to resolve differences.
One group in the alliance, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, seeks to oust a rival Kokang group supported by the military government from a key border city.
Their goals also include eliminating organized criminal enterprises, including cyber scams involving Chinese investors and Myanmar warlords.
