Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury has raised concerns about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's decision to attend a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu during the G20 meet in New Delhi.

He questioned whether this move would not undermine her stance against the Narendra Modi government.

Choudhury, also the state Congress president, pondered if there were any other motives behind Banerjee's participation in the event.

In response, the Trinamool Congress defended Banerjee, highlighting her role as a key figure in the non-BJP bloc INDIA. They dismissed the need for Choudhury to lecture her on administrative protocols.

While speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Choudhary said, "When many non-BJP Chief Ministers refrained from attending the dinner, Didi (Mamata Banerjee) went to Delhi a day in advance."

Choudhary further added, "She attended the occasion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the same room. I wonder what prompted her to rush all the way to Delhi to be in the dinner party along with these leaders."

In response to Choudhury's query about any other motives behind her attendance, Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen emphasised that Banerjee is widely recognised as one of the architects behind INDIA, and her dedication cannot be questioned.

Sen said, "Choudhury will not decide when the Chief Minister of the state will go to attend a dinner on the occasion of G20 as part of the protocol."

The spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, Samik Bhattacharya, accused the Congress and CPI(M) of collaborating with Banerjee's party in Delhi to oppose the saffron camp.

According to Bhattacharya, this alliance betrayed the people of the state, who have been victims of the Trinamool's terror.

Bhattacharya said, "The Congress itself has joined hands with the corrupt Trinamool in Delhi. It is the BJP which has remained vocal against the corruption of TMC leaders. ED and CBI are raiding against them. The BJP is with the people of Bengal."

He further added, "So, people like Adhir Choudhury should explain who is actually cosying up to Trinamool and doing a disservice to the people of the state."

Officials stated that Banerjee's flight, originally scheduled for Saturday, was rescheduled to Friday afternoon due to flight regulation measures in the national capital.
