Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (28 September) launched a scathing attack on Congress, saying that the party has been hijacked by "urban naxal" sympathisers.

Addressing an election rally in Jammu, PM Modi also remembered the Indian Army's surgical strike on Pakistani terrorists, which was carried out on the the night of 28 September 2016.

"Today is 28th September. On this night in 2016, the surgical strike took place. India showed the world that this is the new India... it strikes right at the enemy's doorstep. The masterminds of terror know that if they dare to act, Modi will hunt them down even in the deepest corners," PM Modi said.

Attacking the Congress, PM Modi said that the party sought proof of surgical strike from the Indian Army.

"Congress is the party that, even today, speaks the language of Pakistan regarding the surgical strike. Can you forgive such party? Congress can never respect those who are willing to lay down their lives for the country," he added.

He said the current Congress party has been hijacked by "urban naxal" sympathisers.

"Today, the party is hijacked by urban Naxal sympathisers, who welcome foreign infiltrators as 'vote banks', while mocking the sufferings of our own citizens," he said.
