Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the corporate-controlled media for failing to accurately report on the situation in war-torn Palestine and highlighted a similar influence in the Indian media.

Speaking at the inauguration of an international media festival at the Kerala Media Academy, Vijayan claimed that globally, media policies tend to conceal the atrocities committed by Israel, as per a news report by The New Indian Express.

He expressed concern over the challenges to media freedom worldwide and in India, citing the deaths of over a hundred journalists in the Israeli attack on Gaza.

Vijayan emphasised that not only journalists but also women and children are being ruthlessly murdered.

Vijayan described Palestine as a free country and criticised Israel for turning Gaza into an open jail, which he believes corporate media has largely ignored.

The Left leader called on the Malayalam media to resist attacks on diversity in India, stating that it is the media's responsibility to protect and promote the language.

He expressed doubt about the media's commitment to resisting attacks on diversity.

Vijayan warned that the Malayalam language and cultural diversity are at risk of perishing if efforts to destroy them succeed. He urged the media to stand with secular forces against communal threats for the survival of Malayalam media.

Earlier Vijayan had spoken at a Palestine solidarity rally in Kozhikode. He said the people of India have been expressing pro-Palestine sentiments while the Centre is supporting the assailants.
