Six associates of self-proclaimed radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh were reportedly detained by Punjab Police in a crackdown on Saturday.
It was alleged that supporters of Waris Punjab De chief shared unverified videos of the police chasing his cavalcade in Moga district, with the vehicle escaping to Shahkot near Jalandhar.
Singh, a Khalistan sympathiser, was headed to Bathinda when the police attempted to stop him near Mehtabpur village in Jalandhar.
Six of his supporters were apprehended in Mehtabpur and their homes were searched. All of Singh's companions' phones were allegedly turned off.
An unverified clip shows Singh in fast-moving vehicle.
Singh has one kidnapping case registered against him at Ajnala police station in Amritsar. It is unclear if any other cases were filed against him after his supporters raided the same police station on 24 February.
Singh's associates clashed with the cops and broke into the station to protest against the arrest of one of their own. Police have not shared further details.
Reports suggest that the Punjab Police is closing in on Amritpal Singh, and an arrest is likely.
