Delhi Court Extends Arvind Kejriwal's Judicial Custody In Liquor Policy Case Till 8 August; Sisodia, Kavitha To Also Remain In Jail

On Thursday (25 July), a Delhi court in a recent order has extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody until 8 August in the liquor excise policy case.

Kejriwal appeared via video conference from Tihar Jail as per a report by Hindustan Times.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue court ordered the extension of Kejriwal's custody, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to investigate the case.

The court also extended the judicial custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, BRS leader K Kavitha, and other accused in a separate money laundering case related to the same liquor policy.

Additionally, Tihar Jail authorities were ordered to produce Kejriwal via video conference on 31 July again.

Although the Supreme Court has allowed Kejriwal's request for interim bail in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, he continues to be in Tihar Jail due to his arrest by the CBI concerning alleged irregularities in the genesis and execution of the excise policy.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged that the Narendra Modi-led central government is trying to jeopardise the Delhi Chief Minister's health in jail.

The jail authorities have stated that the weight loss can be caused due to "consumption of less quantity of food or low-calorie intake."

BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva has accused AAP leaders of conducting "drama" to "mislead" the court and secure bail for Kejriwal.
