Demonstrations In Many Parts Of Country Demanding Justice in ‘Udaipur Beheading’

  • The beheading of Udaipur Tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, by Islamists, has sent shock waves in the entire country.

    Since then protests have been held across the country with anger erupting on the police lapses and appeasement politics of the Rajasthan government that led to Lal’s horrifying end.

    On Wednesday, several Hindu organisations took out a rally under a common banner, 'Sarv Hindu Samaj', amidst heavy security deployment. Thousands of people marched from Town Hall to the Collectorate in Udaipur.

    Peaceful protests continued in Udaipur on Thursday. A sea of people gathered to express their solidarity with the family of the deceased, Kanhaiya Lal and demanded justice. They raised slogans and waved saffron flags in a show of support for the Hindu lives.

    On Tuesday, after the videos of two Muslim men, who beheaded Lal at his shop in Udaipur went viral, the state government imposed Section 144 and disbanded internet services. There were reports that Lal’s family had to push hard to perform his last rites at the Hindu cemetery. The police wanted them to perform the last rites near their home. However, the family’s word prevailed.

    Lal’s last rites were performed at Ashok Nagar funeral ground. A large crowd gathered at Lal’s funeral procession to pay their last respects to him. His deceased body was lit amidst the slogans of “Kanhaiya Lal Amar Rahe”.

    Protests were also organised at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Wednesday. 70 protestors were detained by the police as they did not get permission to take out a protest.

    Kapil Mishra collected Rs 1.25 crore in donations within 24 hours for the family of Kanhaiya Lal and Ishwar Singh, the man who fought with the killers of Lal.

    Demonstrations also erupted in other parts of the country including Gurugram, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Bengaluru burning effigies, raising slogans and demanding death penalty for the accused in the murder case.

    On Thursday, CM Gehlot met with the family members of Kanhaiya Lal. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
