Despite 80 Per Cent Strike Rate In Lok Sabha Elections, NCP (Sharad Pawar) To Continue Fight For Clock Party Symbol

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) [NCP(SP)] contested 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and won eight of them, registering a 80 per cent strike rate in Maharashtra.

However, the NCP faction is not content with it and will continue its fight for the Clock party symbol in the Supreme Court, the party's working president Supriya Sule said on Monday (10 June).

Calling the allotment of the party symbol to the Ajit Pawar-led faction "an injustice to (her father) Sharad Pawar," Sule pledged to pursue the case at the NCP(SP) foundation day program in Pune.

NCP was established in 1999 after splitting from the Indian National Congress (INC). However, the party faced a split when Ajit Pawar led a group of MLAs to give support to the ruling coalition in Maharashtra.

In return, Ajit Pawar got the post of Deputy Chief Minister in Maharashtra and was awarded the party name and symbol by the Election Commission in February this year based on the majority.

However, the symbol did not come much to the rescue of Ajit Pawar faction as it won only one of the four seats it contested in the Lok Sabha elections.

Sule expressed gratitude to the voters for firm backing. She attacked the ruling alliance over flooding Pune roads during monsoons, increasing crimes and fleeing investors from the city.

She also praised Congress for treating alliance partners well. NCP(SP) is a part of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) which comprises Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and INC.
