Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attacked three generations of the Gandhi-Nehru family while campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana's in Bhiwani district on Monday (30 September).
Referring to the inauguration of the Ram Jamabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya on 22 January earlier this year, Adityanath alleged, "Unfortunate Congressis (people of Congress party) hate this."
"This is the difference between Ram's culture and Rome's culture," the UP CM said indirectly referring to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who hails from Italy and Rome is the capital of Italy.
"Today Lord Ram is back at his birthplace in Ayodhya Dham. On the other hand, there are those unlucky people, who call themselves accidental Hindu, how can they tolerate this?" Adityanath added.
He was referring to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's quote which says, "I am an English man by education, a Muslim by culture and a Hindu merely by accident."
For Congress MP and leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi's remarks that there was 'naach-gaana' (dance and music) during the Ram mandir inauguration, Adityanath lashed out at him.
"This (dance and music) was done by your family all their lives. That's why you (Rahul Gandhi) insult Hindus, criticise India's Sanatana culture and question Indian institutions abroad," the UP CM said.
Here, he referred to Sonia Gandhi's early life where she was allegedly a dancer and Rahul Gandhi's remarks against India's democracy during his recent visit to the United States.
