Display Owner Name, Install CCTVs, Masks And Gloves For Staff: Yogi Adityanath Orders UP Eateries Amid Food Contamination Incidents

After multiple cases of food contamination over recent months, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday (24 September) issued a new order requiring all food outlets to visibly display the names and addresses of their operators, proprietors, and managers.

The Chief Minister further instructed that all chefs and waiters in these establishments must wear masks and gloves.

He also directed the installation of CCTV cameras in all hotels and restaurants.

These directions come days after an incident where a teenager was caught on video spitting on rotis while preparing them at a Saharanpur eatery on 12 September, leading to his arrest after the footage went viral.

Last week, a juice vendor in Ghaziabad was arrested for allegedly mixing urine into fruit juices before serving them to customers.

In a separate case in June, two people were detained in Noida for selling juice contaminated with their saliva.

CM Adityanath is reportedly concerned about such incidents. The presence of human waste in food items poses a serious health risk.

Emphasising the necessity for strict penalties for offenders, the Chief Minister directed authorities to conduct a thorough probe and inspections of all food-related establishments, including hotels, dhabas, and restaurants.

"Dhabas, restaurants and food establishments must undergo thorough inspections and police verification of all employees should be mandatory. It is crucial to ensure the purity and sanctity of the food being served to the public," CM Adityanath was quoted by Times of India as saying.

The Uttar Pradesh CM also called for amendments to the Food Safety and Standards Act to safeguard public health.

CM Adityanath voiced his concern over the increasing cases of food adulteration nationwide and called for 'concrete measures' to be taken, particularly within Uttar Pradesh.
