The police wing of the Karnataka Lokayukta has registered an FIR against state Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in connection will disproportionate assets allegations.

The accusations pertain to a period between April 2013 and April 2018, when Shivakumar was a minister under the then Congress government.

During the period, Shivakumar had allegedly accumulated assets worth Rs 74.93 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income, Deccan Herald reported.

Responding to the Lokayukta Police registering an FIR against him, Shivakumar said he will continue with his legal battle in cases registered against him and asserted that he has done "nothing wrong".

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on 8 February under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The FIR was filed 50 days after the case was transferred by the state's Congress government to the Lokayukta police for investigation.

The Congress government issued a notification on 22 December 2023, transferring the case to the Lokayukta police for investigation.

This came after it issued a notification on 28 November 2023, withdrawing the consent granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation on 25 September 2019, by the previous BJP government.

After registering the FIR, the Lokayukta police have written to the CBI to transfer details and records related to the investigation done by it till the consent was withdrawn.

The High Court of Karnataka is hearing the petitions filed by the CBI and BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil challenging the withdrawal of the sanction.
