An Army soldier succumbed to his injuries following an encounter today (6 July) between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The clash ensued after a joint operation by the CRPF, Army, and local police, upon receiving intelligence about presence of terrorists in Modergam village.
The situation escalated swiftly as forces established a cordon around the village to trap the terrorists.
In the initial exchange of gunfire, a soldier was critically injured.
According to officials cited in an NDTV report, an Army soldier, injured during the encounter between the security forces and the hiding terrorists in a village of Kulgam district, succumbed to critical injuries in the hospital.
The operation to hunt the terrorists is still ongoing.
In a post on X, the Kashmir Zone Police said, "Encounter started at Modergam Village of Kulgam District. Police and Security Forces are on job. Further details shall follow."
The region has witnessed an uptick in terrorist activities recently, with several encounters reported across Jammu and Kashmir.
Last month, security forces neutralised three terrorists in the Gandoh area of Doda district.
