Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has taken her expulsion from the Lok Sabha to the Supreme Court, contesting the decision related to the cash-for-query allegations against her, as per reports by Hindustan Times.
The expulsion stems from the acceptance of recommendations in the ethics committee report by the lower house of Parliament.
The ethics panel, led by Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Vinod Kumar, had submitted a report earlier, endorsing the expulsion of Moitra and suggesting "severe punishment".
The report had also called for a government inquiry into the allegations.
Moitra faces accusations of receiving cash and other gifts in exchange for posing questions in Parliament.
The move to challenge her expulsion in the Supreme Court adds another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding the cash-for-query row.
