In the wake of the uproar caused by the desecration of the Swami Narayan temple in the US, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed his awareness of the incident on Saturday (23 December) and emphasised that such 'extremists' should not be given space.
He underlined that the matter has already been taken up by the Indian Consulate in San Francisco with the US authorities and an investigation is currently in progress.
"I have seen it. Extremists, separatists and such forces should not be given space. Our consulate there complained to the government and the police and an inquiry is underway," Jaishankar was quoted as saying by ANI.
The Swaminarayan temple in Newark, California was vandalized by individuals believed to be pro-Khalistan extremist.
The outer surface of the Hindu temple was marred by anti-India scribbles. An investigation into this act of vandalism has been initiated by the Newark Police Service.
The temple administration reported that the incident occurred on Thursday night.
