A month after Hisar MP Brijendra Singh left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to join Congress, former Union Minister Birender Singh followed in his son's footsteps.
"I have resigned from the primary membership of the BJP and sent my resignation to party chief J P Nadda. My wife Prem Lata has also quit the party. Tomorrow, we will join the Congress," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
Prem Lata was elected as Uchana Kalan's MLA in 2014 but lost to former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Singh Chautala in the 2019 Assembly elections.
This will be Birender Singh's return to the Congress as he was in the grand old party till 2014. He was sent to Rajya Sabha by the BJP and handled various portfolios in the first term of the Modi government.
He was elected as Hisar MP in 1984 on a Congress ticket. His son became an MP from here in 2019 on a BJP ticket. However, on being denied a ticket this time, Brijendra left the BJP.
