An FIR has been lodged against Tamil film actor Mansoor Ali Khan by the Chennai police due to his alleged derogatory and inappropriate remarks about southern star Trisha.
He has been charged with sexual harassment and the intent to insult a woman's modesty by the All Women Police Station at Thousand lights.
This action was initiated following a complaint from the National Women's Commission. A police officer informed NDTV that they would initially send him a notice.
Mansoor Ali Khan recently made headlines when he expressed his disappointment over the lack of bedroom scenes, which are common in his villain roles, in the hit film Leo. This film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring prominent actress Trisha, has received widespread attention.
Trisha's fury was ignited by his comments, as she wrote on X, "A recent video has come to my notice where Mr Mansoor Ali Khan has spoken about me in a vile and disgusting manner. I strongly condemn this and find it sexist, disrespectful, misogynistic, repulsive and in bad taste."
She added, "He can keep wishing but I am grateful never to have shared screen space with someone as pathetic as him and I will make sure it never happens for the rest of my film career as well. People like him bring a bad name to mankind."
Singer Chinmayi and actor Khushbu also joined Trisha in her public condemnation of Mansoor Ali Khan, voicing their own disapproval.
In a video message circulated on WhatsApp groups, Khan made a statement saying, "They don't cast villains. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj should advocate for me as well. They don't allow us to play the bad guy. I decided against speaking at the 'Leo' film event to avoid the perception that I am inciting conflicts."
He added "I was so excited. Let me tell you here, When I was told I'd act with Trisha, I thought there would surely be bedroom scenes. I thought I can do like I had thrown Khushbu and Roja on the bed. What friend, is there a rape I've not done in 150 films? Is there any outrage I've not done? Villains are not cast. They took Trisha in the hand to white snowy Kashmir like how Hanuman carried Chiranjeevi hill. They didn't show her at all and carried her back without her feet touching the ground."
Despite facing criticism, Mansoor Ali Khan has declined to apologise. He defended his stance in a statement, insisting that his comments were misconstrued and possibly manipulated, potentially related to the launch of his forthcoming movie and rumors regarding his political debut.
He clarified that his comments were intended to be jovial observations on the evolving depiction of women in cinema compared to the past, and weren't targeted at one person. He stated, "I only expressed positive sentiments about Trisha, noting that she was safely transported on air to Kashmir and back. The opportunities to act with heroines are not the same as they were in the past films."
