First Friday In CAA Era, Here's How Different State Governments Have Prepared For It

Several state governments have issued alert amid the possibility of protest and violence as the first Friday prayers will be held across the mosques in the country after the law was implemented.

In UP, the Yogi Government has issued a statewide alert ahead of the Friday prayers. Further, daughter of Urdu poet Munawwar Rana, Sumaiyya, who had called for protest against the government after the passage of the bill in 2020, has also been placed under house arrest.

The UP DGP Prashant Kumar has directed to be vigilant in view of Friday prayers in all the districts of the state and deploy additional force in highly sensitive areas.

In Delhi, intelligence agencies and Delhi Police have been on alert after the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was notified on 12 March.

Unlawful gatherings are not being allowed in the national capital, with drones being used to monitor movement in the city. Further, the cops have also put “potential troublemakers” under surveillance.

Sensitive areas such as Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Nagar in southeast Delhi and northeast Delhi localities are being kept under watch for unlawful gatherings.

In Bihar, the police have issued an alert for all the 38 districts of the state after the Central government issued CAA notification.

Bihar Police Headquarters has directed all SPs and SSPs to keep an eye on vulnerable places in their respective districts, especially in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region of the state.
