First Union Cabinet Decision: Modi Government To Build 3 Crore More Houses Under PM Awas Yojana

The first Cabinet decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third government is provision of building 3 crore additional houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The Union Cabinet in its first meeting today (10 June) decided to provide assistance to 3 crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses.

The PMAY was launched in 2015 by PM Modi. The scheme provides assistance to the eligible rural and urban households for construction of houses with basic amenities.

A total of 4.21 crore houses have been built under this scheme. They were also provided with other basic amenities such as toilets, LPG connection, electricity connection, tap connection etc.

In the Budget speech of 1 February 2024, 2 crore more houses were announced under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana. The scheme was launched in April 2016.
