Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament Jaya Bachchan objected to the "tone" of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha on 9 August. This is ironic since Bachchan herself is known for her "tone," which comes off as arrogant, and rude behaviour.

The most recent example was actor Aamir Khan's daughter Ira Khan's wedding in January. Bachchan oddly walked away without greeting Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre as they came together for photographs by mediapersons.

Previously, Bachchan was seen being rude to mediapersons during the screening of the film The Archies, in which her grandson, Agastya Nanda, is featured. She told mediapersons, "Don't shout," and made demeaning gestures, asking to turn down the volume.

While her rude behaviour with camerapersons and reporters has been a recurring feature for a while, it has also made an appearance inside the Parliament on a few occasions.

Bachchan is now demanding an apology from Dhankhar, but she herself has disrespected the Vice President many times in Parliament. Last year, she was seen pointing a finger at him disrespectfully when Dhankhar was asking everyone to take their seats.

In December 2021, when the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill was being discussed in the Rajya Sabha and someone questioned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons to her daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai in the Panama Papers leak case, she said, "Your bad days will be here soon... I curse you."

Prior to that, when Bollywood was facing criticism after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, Bachchan criticised her fellow actors Kangana Ranaut and Ravi Kishan by disregarding their viewpoints.

In a derogatory manner, she said, "Jis thaali mein khaate hain, usi mein chhed karte hain (They are cutting the same branch on which they are sitting)." This was in response to Ranaut calling Bollywood a "gutter."

When Kishan raised the issue of drug abuse by Bollywood celebrities, Bachchan said, "Just because there are some people, you can’t tarnish the image of the entire industry. I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame."
