The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government presented a supplementary budget of Rs 12,209.93 crore on Wednesday (31 July), allocating the largest chunk for the Ganga expressway.
The Ganga expressway will connect Meerut with Prayagraj and the target is to open it to the general public by December 2024 so that devotees can benefit during the Prayagraj Kumbh in 2025.
A total of Rs 6,072 crore has been allocated for the Ganga expressway, of which Rs 5,664 crore will be used for the construction work and Rs 408 crore for the GST payment to developers.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna presented the budget, detailing a supplementary budget with a revenue account expenditure of Rs 4,227.94 crore and a capital account expenditure of Rs 7,981.99 crore.
He highlighted that this supplementary budget represents 1.66 per cent of the current year’s original budget.
Within the supplementary budget, Rs 7,500.81 crore is allocated for industrial development, Rs 2,000 crore for the Energy Department, and Rs 1,000 crore for the purchase of new buses for the Transport Department.
Additionally, Rs 600 crore is set aside to support the AMRUT scheme under the Urban Development Department and Rs 200 crore for short-term training programs through the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission.
Rs 100 crore is allocated for rural stadiums and open gyms, and Rs 28.40 crore for establishing laboratories in 284 government inter-colleges under the Secondary Education Department.
Moreover, Rs 66.82 crore is allocated for setting up ICT labs in 1,040 government inter-colleges. The Culture Department has been granted Rs 74.90 crore for various schemes.
Rs 53.85 crore is designated for establishing Atal residential schools, with Rs 2.79 crore earmarked for the maintenance of residential and non-residential buildings.
Finance Minister Khanna also announced that Rs 49.80 crore has been allocated for the formation of the Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Mission Samiti and the operation of related schemes, aimed at providing job opportunities at both national and state levels for the youth.
