Months before the Assembly elections in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (9 July) appointed Mohan Lal Badoli as the president of its Haryana unit.
Nayab Singh Saini was BJP's Haryana president since October last year but since he took charge as the Chief Minister of the state in March this year, he needed to be relieved from his party responsibilities.
The appointment has been made by BJP's national president Jagat Prakash Nadda and will be in effect immediately as the BJP cannot lose time for the elections due in October this year.
Badoli is Rai (in Sonipat district) MLA and was serving as general secretary of Haryana BJP. He has also served as Sonipat district president of BJP.
Badoli comes from a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background and started his political career by winning the Zila Parishad election from Murthal, a first for a BJP candidate.
He also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Sonipat but lost to Congress' Satpal Brahamchari by a margin of over 21,000 votes.
