A video of the Muharram celebration in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi got viral where youth can be seen chanting the slogan, "Hindustan mein rehna hai to ya Hussain kehna hai (if you want to live in Hindustan, you have to say Ya Hussain."
Taking note of the viral video, Amethi police detained the individuals seen in the video. Issuing a statement, Anoop Kumar Singh said that the incident happened in the jurisdiction area of Musafirkhana police station.
"Questioning is being conducted. A case has been registered under appropriate sections of the law. The video is also being verified. All required legal processes will be done," Amethi Superintendent of Police said.
This comes at a time when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that his administration has been able to conduct Muslim festivals like Muharram and Tajiya peacefully in the state.
"Recall that during the time of Muharram, streets used to get abandoned. Today we are not even getting to know that Muharram is being conducted," he said at a key UP meet of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"In the name of Tajiya, houses used to be demolished. Peepal trees and electricity lines were cut. Today they say nothing of this sort will be done. If one wants to celebrate festivals, celebrate abiding by rules or sit at home," he added.
