Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (23 June) criticised the joint Opposition meeting in Patna today, referring to it as a “photo session” and stating that the various Opposition parties can never unite.

Addressing a public rally in Jammu, Shah said, “Today, a photo session is underway in Patna. All opposition leaders are gathering at one place. They want to send the message that they will challenge the NDA, BJP and PM Modi. I want to tell them that join as many hands as you want, your unity is never going to be a possibility".

The home minister added, “If you get united, come before the voters, it is already decided that Modi will become prime minister in 2024 by winning more than 300 seats".

The BJP has slammed the gathering of Opposition leaders in Patna, referring to it as a “gathbandhan (alliance) of thugs”.

BJP MP Sushil Modi stated that sitting together for tea does not indicate unity among the opposition.

“This is a ‘Gathbandhan of Thugs’. They are preparing to fool the country. They have no principle, or policy and all are involved in corruption,” he added, reports Indian Express.

Former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned who would lead the bloc of opposition parties in their fight against the BJP.

He remarked in Hindi, "Nitish Kumar is decorating the wedding procession for the 2024 elections in Patna, but who is the groom (PM contender). Everyone is calling themselves a PM contender".

It should be noted that several opposition parties, including Congress, RJD, and SP, are meeting in Patna today to chalk out a roadmap for formation of an anti-BJP front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
