Iran has launched a massive assault on Israel, deploying over 200 drones and missiles in coordination with its allies, as per reports.

The attack, described by an Israeli army spokesperson as unprecedented, targeted Israeli positions alongside assaults by Iranian proxies.

Meanwhile, Iran has invoked self-defence in its case, citing an earlier strike on its diplomatic mission in Damascus and expressed hope for de-escalation.

United States President Joe Biden has confirmed US involvement in intercepting most of the incoming drones and missiles, reaffirming his 'ironclad' support for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

He also announced plans to convene the G7 for a united diplomatic response condemning Iran's actions and calling for coordination against further aggression.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged both defensive and offensive responses, emphasising his country's longstanding preparation for direct Iranian threats.

Global condemnation has also poured in from the European Union, Britain, France, and others. The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting to address the situation.

In response to the escalating conflict, Israel closed schools nationwide, while neighbouring countries temporarily shut their airspace.

The ongoing Gaza war, now entering its seventh month, has heightened tensions across the region, drawing concerns of a broader conflict involving Iran, its allies on one side and Israel supported by US on other side, with Egypt urging restraint.
