While the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha has concluded after the oath-taking of newly elected members and the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, two jailed MPs are yet to take the oath.
Pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh, who won from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib while being in jail under the National Security Act (NSA) and Sheikh Abdul Rashid are likely to take oath on 5 July.
Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, is in Tihar jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a terror funding case. He won as an Independent from Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla.
A Delhi court on Tuesday (2 July) granted him permission to take oath in custody parole of two hours after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) gave its consent.
Similarly, Amritpal Singh has been granted a parole from 5 July to 9 July after receiving clearance state and central agencies. He is likely to be airlifted from Assam's Dibrugarh to New Delhi for oath.
"Everything required for Amritpal to take oath as MP is complete. He will take oath on July 5 and will bring brought back to Dibrugarh Jail," a Punjab government officer involved in clearance process said.
