A student group at Jamia Millia Islamia central university today (13 October) wore badges supporting 'Hamas', a Palestinian group designated as a terror organisation by many countries.
On 7 October, Hamas is known to have carried out the deadliest terror attack against Israel, infiltrating through the border and killing over 1,200 Israeli civilians in a surprise attack.
They wore 'With Hamas' badges on their heads during a protest staged by several student groups at the New Delhi-based campus on 13 October.
A correspondent received the visuals from a source at the university and can be seen here.
Several Communist and Islamist groups active at the University gave a call for the protest last evening, posters of which were circulated on the group’s social media accounts.
One of the posters said ‘Jamia Rises For International Solidarity Day With Palestine' and used the hashtags #FreePalestine and #DownWithIsrael.
It is pertinent to note that three days earlier, Hamas leader Khaled Mash’al had given a call to the Palestinians, the Arabs in Israel and across the world, and the entire Islamic ummah to join the jihad battle against Israel, urging them to hold rallies, fund-raisers or directly confronting Israelis.
A source at the university told Swarajya that the Hamas badge was displayed by students belonging to a group named Students Islamic Organisation of India or SIO of India.
The Facebook page of the group, which has 93,000 followers, shows a call for the protest given yesterday, saying ‘India With Palestine’.
