Upon receiving information about the presence of terrorists, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation killing two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in an encounter in Baramulla on Wednesday (20 June).
"The killed terrorists have been identified as Usman and Umar, both of Pakistan origin and associated with LeT," Brigadier Deepak Mohan, Commander 7 Sector Rashtriya Rifles was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Two security personnel were injured in this operation, which turned into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire at the security personnel.
Weapons and ammunition in large quantities were recovered after the operation, as per the Indian Army. The Brigadier said that Usman has been active in the Kashmir Valley since 2020.
Sopore-Raflabad area has been active in regard to the movement of the terrorists in the past few weeks, as per the Army officer. Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) provided specific intelligence for yesterday's operation.
The joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, JKP and Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) and the civilians were safely evacuated as per the standard procedure.
The house in the Hadipura village of the Rafiabad area that housed the terrorists was thoroughly cordoned off. Terrorists opened fire in response.
