Jharkhand: Congress MLA From Jamtara Threatens To Vandalise Theatres Showing 'The Kerala Story'

Jharkhand Congress MLA from Jamtara, Irfan Ansari, on Sunday, 7 May, demanded a ban on the film The Kerala Story and threatened to vandalise theatres if they show the movie.

“They should make movies on education, on development… Here (in Jharkhand) we will vandalise theatres, we will file a case on the theatre owner who shows the film,” he said.

The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma starrer tells the story of three women in Kerala who were converted to Islam and eventually sent to terror centres like Afghanistan and Syria.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have come out in support of the movie, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently attacking the Congress at a rally in Karnataka for opposing it.

BJP chief JP Nadda recently saw the movie with school students in Bengaluru and said that it exposes a new poisonous form of terrorism in which bombs and ammunition are not used.

 Previously, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that “The Kerala Story is not just a film. There are people who want to lure girls into the path of terrorism, and their face has been exposed in this film.”

The Kerala High Court too refused to impose a ban on the movie earlier, stating that the trailer doesn’t contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.

While theatres in Tamil Nadu stopped the screening of the movie citing “poor collections”, BJP leader and member of the National Commission for Women Khushbu Sundar condemned the opposition to the movie and thanked the government for letting people know this is a must-watch film.
