Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was sent to a one-day judicial custody by the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) Court on Thursday (1 February) in a land scam case.
While the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought custody for 10 days, the court will decide on it in tomorrow's hearing. Soren was arrested yesterday by the ED after he submitted his resignation from the CM post.
Notably, the Supreme Court is also set to hear Soren's plea against his arrest by the ED tomorrow. Lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi are representing Soren there.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has yet not announced the swearing-in of the CM nominee Champai Soren. His delegation including four other leaders from the JMM-Congress alliance met the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi at 5:30 pm.
After the meeting, he said, "We have demanded that the process to start the formation of the Government should begin. He (Governor) said that the process will begin soon."
However, amid apprehensions about the Governor's approval, a possible move can be to shift the alliance legislators to Hyderabad to avoid external pressures.
Chartered planes have reportedly landed at Ranchi airport, awaiting orders to transport the alliance MLAs to Hyderabad. The move is seen as a precautionary measure amid the evolving political scenario in the state.
