Iltiza Mufti, the daughter of former J&K chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, has conceded defeat from the Srigufwara-Bijbehara seat.
"I accept the verdict of the people. The love & affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me. Gratitude to my PDP workers who worked so hard throughout this campaign," Iltija said in a post on X.
Latest available Election Commission figures indicate that she is trailing behind National Conference (NC) veteran Bashir Ahmad Veeri by more than 3,700 votes.
The 36-year-old Iltija contested for the first time and got the ticket from Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), headed by her mother Mehbooba Mufti.
Srigufwara-Bijbehara is a historic seat for the Mufti family. Her grandfather, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, represented this seat between 1967 and 1972, while her mother, Mehbooba Mufti, won from here in 1996.
She was one of the most high-profile candidates in the election and grabbed headlines for playing to the narrative of victimisation of the Muslim community in J&K.
