The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday raided the house of B M Basha, son of former Ullal MLA late B M Idinabba, and arrested Basha’s daughter-in-law Deepthi Marla alias Mariam for suspected ISIS links, police sources said.
Idinbaba was a member of Congress party and was elected as a MLA for three times in the Karnataka state assembly from Ullal constituency.
Krisha Kumar, DSP, Assistant Investigating Officer, NIA, Delhi along with Ajay Singh P I and Monika Dhikwal arrested Mariam, who is wife of Anas Abdul Rahiman, son of Basha.
In Aug this year, NIA along with state police units on Wednesday conducted simultaneous searches at five locations, including three in Kashmir and one each in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, and arrested four accused in connection with investigation into the Islamic State of Iraq & Syria (ISIS) recruitment case.
The four persons arrested were identified by NIA as Obaid Hamid and Muzammil Hassan Bhat from Kashmir, Ammar Abdul Rahman from Mangaluru and Shankar Venkatesh Perumal, alias Ali Muaviya, from Bengaluru. They were accused of involvement in raising funds, radicalising and motivating more people to join ISIS
Though the NIA interrogated Mariam for two days during last year's raid, they had not arrested her. The agency, however, had been monitoring her movements since then.
Deepthi Marla, who is from the Bunt Community and belongs to Kodagu district, fell in love with Anas while studying BDS at a college in Deralakatte here. Later, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Mariam.
It is suspected that she has connections with terrorist outfit ISIS and militants in Jammu and Kashmir. NIA officials carried out investigations about Mariam on the suspicion that she is involved in a racket to recruit youths to the ISIS network, sources said.
