Kalyan Singh Vs Mulayam Yadav: Yogi Adityanath's Pitch For Campaign In Mainpuri; Here's What The UP CM Said

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recalled the death of former UP CM Kalyan Singh and that no Samajwadi Party (SP) leader expressed sympathy for him while campaigning in Mainpuri on Thursday (2 May).

Adityanath said, "Kalyan Singh who was the CM of the State and whose entire life went into the service of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, after his death Samajwadi Party hasn't expressed a word of sympathy."

He contrasted this with the death of another former UP CM Mulayam Yadav and said, "After he passed away, I went to his village to pay him the tribute, PM Modi gave his condolences, but SP insulted leaders."

"The SP who insults Kalyan Singh, the SP who plays with your belief, the SP that loots rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, should be punished for alliance with Congress," he added.

The major contrast between the CMship of Mulayam Yadav and Kalyan Singh is that while Yadav ordered the police to fire on the Karsevaks involved in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Singh refused to do so.

Instead, Singh resigned from the post of the UP CM after the demolition of the Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992 and his quote, "No regret. No repentance. No sorrow. No grief." became immortal.

Adityanath appealed to the people to vote for BJP candidate Jaiveer Singh on 7 May. The SP candidate here is Akhilesh Yadav's wife and incumbent MP Dimple Yadav, who won the seat in the 2022 by-polls.
