In a bid to enhance participation in the upcoming budget session, Assembly Speaker U T Khader has unveiled a new initiative on Monday (5 February).
As per reports by Deccan Herald, the Assembly secretariat will provide complimentary breakfast and lunch to all legislators throughout the 10-day session at the Vidhana Soudha.
This unprecedented move is aimed to encourage active engagement among members in the assembly.
During a press briefing, Speaker Khader expressed optimism that offering meals would entice more legislators to partake in the morning sessions.
It's important to note that the 15th Assembly had 167 sitting days across 15 sessions. The average number of sittings in a year was 33.
Another startling statistics is the fact that the Karnataka Assembly has not met for more than 60 days in any year since 2002.
Breakfast will be served from 8 am to 9 am, featuring a diverse array of cuisines from different hotels.
Additionally, Khader revealed plans for a comprehensive orientation programme scheduled for Friday (9 February), at the Indian Institute of Management in Bengaluru.
This event will facilitate learning opportunities for both MLAs and journalists.
Experts, including former bureaucrats, will deliver insights on various aspects of budget preparation, including fund allocation procedures.
The budget session of the Karnataka legislature is scheduled to kick off on 12 February, with the Governor addressing the joint session on the inaugural day.
The session would extend until 23 February, with the budget presentation slated for 16 February.
