The Bharatiya Janata Party's Karnataka unit on Saturday (10 June) launched a 24-hour helpline ( (18003091907) by its legal cell to assist its workers and supporters facing "legal atrocities" by the Congress government in the state.

The helpline is intended to help party workers and supporters who may be targeted by what the BJP calls "hate politics" set to be unleashed by the Congress government.

The helpline was inaugurated at the party's office in Bengaluru by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya and other leaders.

The BJP leaders reportedly said that there were indications of the Congress government unleashing "hate politics" on the BJP workers and those supporting the party's ideology.

He urged party workers who encounter intimidation or threats to call the helpline.

“More than 100 lawyers will help run this helpline,” Surya said, reports The Hindu.

During the event, Surya expressed concerns about Home Minister G Parameshwar's recent announcement of an anti-moral policing police squad in the backdrop of right-wing outfits opposing the interfaith couples.

Surya argued that such a move was an attempt to restrict cultural organisations working in the area.

He said that the Congress government had imposed restrictions on Hindu organizations to carry out processions and festivities in the past too, and that they had to be fought legally.

Prior to the helpline's launch, BJP held a meeting earlier in the week with fifty lawyers from across the country to discuss the issue and come up with a solution.

The party said that the helpline will operate 24 hours a day to provide necessary assistance to BJP workers.
