As Karnataka Congress is in the process of finalising candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the buzz in political circles is that most leaders are creating pressure to get tickets for their family members.
The list of names submitted by Congress election observers will be discussed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and is expected to be finalised by the last week of February.
While Karnataka Congress' working president Saleem Ahmed has made claims of the party winning 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state, this won't be possible if the ticket distribution is made on the basis of affiliation with big leaders, not merit.
Journalist DP Satish posted on X, "Ruling Congress ministers/MLAs want party ticket for their son/daughter/wife/brother in all 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka. Deciding the tickets would be difficult for Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar."
Undoubtedly, this will be difficult for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is already making efforts to control dissent within the party by giving 'cabinet-rank' status to 56 individuals, other than 34 ministers.
