Karnataka To Develop Six New Tech-Knowledge Cities, Announces Chief Minister Bommai At Bengaluru Tech Summit

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced the setting up of six new cities to promote the growth of the knowledge and technology sectors in the state.

Speaking at the 25th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) on Wednesday, Bommai said these new cities will be developed in Kalaburagi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Mangaluru, Mysuru and Bengaluru.

These cities will be well-planned, high-tech and help promote IT, BT and startup, he said adding that the government would start work on developing these cities within the next six months.

A dedicated startup park will also be developed near the Bengaluru international airport which will be multi-modal and help promote various spheres of the startup eco-system, he said.

He also said that the state needs to do much more for the growth of the startup industry.

The 25th edition of the summit was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who lauded the efforts of Bengaluru’s IT professionals for creating innovative technology products that helped the country navigate the tough times during the Covid-19 pandemic when all other countries were struggling.

The first edition of this summit was inaugurated by the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998.

This year, the summit is also hosting the country’s largest international tech exhibition with over 575 organisations in attendance. It will honour the 12 startup unicorns from the city with the Bengaluru Impact Award.
