K Surendran, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kerala unit, today (27 August) stated that actor and Union minister Suresh Gopi's opinion on the Hema committee issue was not the party's stand.

"Suresh Gopi may have his opinion as an actor and union minister. But the party has its own stand. This is a burning political issue. As Ranjith and Siddique tendered resignation from their posts, Mukesh also should quit. We won't allow the government to conduct the women's conclave including Mukesh who is the apostolate of sexual assault."

Surendran made the remarks after Gopi, answering journalists who questioned him about the allegations against actor and Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, said, "This is fodder for your media. You can make money with it, but you are subverting a major system. If the matter is in the court, the court will decide then.

"You are not only beating the goats and drinking blood, you are also diverting the mentality of a society go awry. The complaint is in the form of an allegation. Who are you talking to? Are you the court? The court will decide. I said what I had to say."

The BJP has demanded Mukesh's resignation and questioned the CPI(M) for not asking him to quit.
